A Stabilized Kriging Method for Mapping Disease Rates

Che-Chia Hsu et al.

Summary: A stabilized kriging method is proposed for mapping disease rates, which has smaller errors and improved resolution compared to other methods. Real-world data analysis of oral cancer incidence rates in Taiwan demonstrated the effectiveness of the method in locating hot and cold spots. The use of stabilized kriging method is recommended for mapping disease rates.

Forecast of peak attainment and imminent decline after 2017 of oral cancer incidence in men in Taiwan

Jing-Rong Jhuang et al.

Summary: Oral cancer is the fourth most common cancer among men in Taiwan, and the incidence rate has been increasing since 1980. Our research on the projection of oral cancer burden is crucial for effective public health planning. We found that the incidence rates for young adults have already peaked and started declining, while the rates for all age groups peaked around the 1972 birth cohort. Despite the increasing trend from 1997 to 2017, we predict a peak and subsequent decline in the age-standardized incidence rate for oral cancer among men in Taiwan.

Forecast of a future leveling of the incidence trends of female breast cancer in Taiwan: an age-period-cohort analysis

Yi-Chu Chen et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Taiwan. The incidence rate has doubled in 20 years. A study projected that the incidence rate will continue to increase but will plateau in 2031. Most future cases will be older women aged 55 and above. Education and mammography screening are needed. These findings have implications for other countries with similar breast cancer trends.

A stabilized spatiotemporal kriging method for disease mapping and application to male oral cancer and female breast cancer in Taiwan

Dai-Rong Tsai et al.

Summary: The proposed stabilized spatiotemporal kriging method provides a more accurate mapping of disease rates across space and time. In Taiwan, high-risk areas for oral cancer are located in the northwest and southeast, while high-risk areas for breast cancer are concentrated in densely populated urban regions in the west.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
