Aqueous photodegradation of methyl orange and antimicrobial activity against E. coli and S. aureus bacteria using pH modified MgO nanomaterials

Muhammad Irfan Jahanger et al.

Summary: In this study, magnesium oxide (MgO) nanostructures were successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal method with varying NaOH concentrations. The synthesized materials were characterized and evaluated for their potential as photocatalysts and antimicrobial agents. The results showed that the structural parameters of the synthesized materials slightly varied with different pH concentrations, and the powders prepared with 1M NaOH concentration exhibited the highest photocatalytic degradation and antimicrobial activity.

Modulation of interfacial charge dynamics of semiconductor heterostructures for advanced photocatalytic applications

Chun-Wen Tsao et al.

Summary: Photocatalysis using semiconductor heterostructures is a promising technology with the potential to meet global energy demand, reduce greenhouse effect, and accomplish environmental remediation. However, challenges such as inadequate solar photons absorption and poor surface reaction kinetics hinder the widespread deployment of semiconductor photocatalysts. Modulating charge dynamics and manipulating carrier behavior could pave the way for the intelligent design of versatile photocatalysts for advanced applications.

Graphitic carbon nitride photocatalysis: the hydroperoxyl radical role revealed by kinetic modelling

Inmaculada Velo-Gala et al.

Summary: Metal-free graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) is an optical semiconductor capable of in situ H2O2 generation during pollutant removal. The photocatalytic degradation mechanism using GCN involves reactive oxygen species and photogenerated holes, with the challenge lying in understanding the role of each species in the kinetics of the process. This study provides novel photodegradation kinetic data through modeling using Kintecus software, validated by simultaneous fitting of phenol removal and H2O2 formation, and investigates the roles of dissolved oxygen and intermediate products.
