Intensive, prolonged exercise seemingly causes gut dysbiosis in female endurance runners

So Morishima et al.

Summary: The gut microbiota of female endurance runners was found to be dysbiotic compared to control subjects, with certain bacteria being associated with gut inflammation. Furthermore, the elevated concentration of succinate in the female endurance runners may be partly attributed to the abundance of Faecalibacterium, suggesting a potential link between intensive exercise and gut dysbiosis. Further research on the impact of intensive exercise on gut microbiota is recommended.
