The dietary inflammatory index is inversely associated with depression, which is minimally mediated by C-reactive protein

Deniz Azarmanesh et al.

Summary: Depression affects 8% of adults in America and is one of the leading causes of disability in Western countries. The dietary inflammatory index (DII) has been found to be associated with inflammation and depression. The study found that the association between DII and depression was more significant in females than males.

Prevalence and Risk Factors Associated with Postpartum Depression during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Literature Review and Meta-Analysis

Qianqian Chen et al.

Summary: Research findings indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic has detrimental effects on the mental wellbeing of women after childbirth, leading to a significantly higher prevalence of postpartum depression (PPD). Risk factors for PPD during the COVID-19 pandemic include socio-demographic and clinical characteristics, stress and anxiety, lack of various supports, and COVID-19 related factors.

Dietary inflammatory index and depression risk in patients with chronic diseases and comorbidity

Cheng Jiang et al.

Summary: The study examines the association between Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and depression in patients with chronic diseases and comorbidity. The findings suggest that a higher DII is associated with an increased risk of depression in participants with chronic diseases and comorbidity, especially among those less than 60 years and men.

Association of Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and depression in the elderly over 55 years in Northern China: analysis of data from a multicentre, cohort study

Ruiqiang Li et al.

Summary: This study assessed the association between the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and depression in the elderly in Northern China. The results showed a significant correlation between pro-inflammatory diets and the risk of depression, particularly in overweight and obese individuals. The study emphasizes the importance of further research in different populations to confirm the relationship between DII and depression.

Postpartum depression and associated risk factors during the COVID-19 pandemic

Clayton J. Shuman et al.

Summary: This study investigated postpartum depression and associated risk factors among postpartum patients in the United States between February and July 2020. The results showed that approximately one-third of the participants screened positive for postpartum depression, and about one-fifth had major depressive symptoms. Participants who fed their infants formula and had infants admitted to the NICU were more likely to screen positive for postpartum depression. Furthermore, a longer postpartum period and concerns about COVID-19 infection were also associated with a higher likelihood of screening positive for postpartum depression.

Associations of sedentary behaviours and incidence of unhealthy diet during the COVID-19 quarantine in Brazil

Andre O. Werneck et al.

Summary: The study found that high frequency of TV-viewing and computer/tablet use during the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with an increase in consumption of ultra-processed food and a decrease in fruit and vegetable consumption. Participants with sedentary behaviors during the quarantine period were more likely to exhibit unhealthy dietary habits during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Effects of Total Red Meat Intake on Glycemic Control and Inflammatory Biomarkers: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Lauren E. O'Connor et al.

Summary: The study found that total red meat consumption does not affect biomarkers related to glycemic control or inflammation in healthy adults, regardless of the amount consumed, contrary to previous hypotheses. Through the analysis of data and research methods, the results suggest that total red meat consumption is not significantly associated with diabetes.

Comparing breastfeeding experiences between mothers spending the traditional Chinese confinement period in a confinement centre and those staying at home: a cohort study

Siew Cheng Foong et al.

Summary: In Malaysia, ethnic Chinese mothers follow traditional confinement practices for 30 days after childbirth. Recently, confinement centres have emerged where mothers can receive traditional care. However, despite concerns that practices in these centres may contribute to low breastfeeding rates among ethnic Chinese mothers, there is currently no data to support this. This study aimed to describe mothers' breastfeeding experiences at confinement centres and identify areas for potential improvement in breastfeeding support.
