Healthiness matters: Approach motivation for healthy food in overweight and obese individuals

Sophia Moore et al.

Summary: Contrary to the hypothesis, overweight individuals showed a greater approach tendency towards healthy food compared to healthy-weight individuals, while there were no group differences in behavioural approach-avoidance tendencies towards unhealthy food. These novel findings suggest that overweight individuals are characterized by an approach motivation for healthy food.

Touchscreen-based assessment of food approach biases: Investigating reliability and item-specific preferences

Sercan Kahveci et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel touchscreen method for measuring approach biases towards food items, demonstrating reliable results when approach and avoidance are defined as movements relative to the stimulus. Different types of food may evoke varying degrees of approach biases, with inconclusive correlations to state and trait cravings.

Comparison of different response devices to assess behavioral tendencies towards chocolate in the approach-avoidance task

Charlotte E. Wittekind et al.

Summary: Behavioral tendencies in approach biases towards chocolate were assessed using different response devices (joystick, computer mouse, touchscreen) in this study, revealing similar results across devices. Approach biases were mainly present in the compatible block of trials and associated with craving. Order effects indicated specific temporal dynamics in stimulus-response mappings that require further investigation.
