The effect of temperature and UV irradiation on corrosion behavior of 304 stainless steel exposed to a simulated marine atmosphere

Mingxiao Guo et al.

Summary: The effect of temperature and UV irradiation on the corrosion behavior of 304 stainless steel exposed to a simulated marine atmosphere was studied. The results show that UV irradiation can significantly inhibit the corrosion rate of 304 SS, with a stronger inhibition effect at higher temperatures. Moreover, UV irradiation changes the morphology and relative content of the corrosion products on the 304 SS surface, particularly promoting the formation of Cr2O3 at higher temperatures and thus improving the corrosion resistance of 304 SS.

Summary: This study investigates the use of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) to enhance the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy AZ91 in chloride-containing environments. The results show that the PEO coating significantly improves the corrosion resistance compared to the untreated alloy, as observed through electrochemical measurements and SEM analysis.

Effect of Sensitization on Pitting Corrosion at MnS and CrS in Type 304 Stainless Steel

Shimpei Tokuda et al.

Summary: The study assessed the effect of sensitization on the pitting potentials at MnS and CrS inclusions in Type 304 stainless steels. It was found that the pitting potential at MnS inclusions decreased due to sensitization, while the pitting potential at CrS inclusions remained unaffected.

Chloride corrosion behavior on heating pipeline made by AISI 304 and 316 in reclaimed water

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: This study utilized electrochemical methods to evaluate the corrosion resistance of AISI 304 and AISI 316 stainless steel materials in simulated reclaimed water with different chloride concentrations. The results showed that AISI 316 exhibited better corrosion resistance compared to AISI 304, with similar passivation layers observed on both materials under experimental conditions.

A review of passivity breakdown on metal surfaces: influence of chloride- and sulfide-ion concentrations, temperature, and pH

Hemalatha Parangusan et al.

Summary: Metals, including austenitic steels and alloys, are widely used in industrial and engineering applications. Passive films on metal surfaces play a crucial role in corrosion protection. Understanding the mechanism of passivity breakdown and pit nucleation is important for comprehending the corrosion process, which can be influenced by various factors such as ion concentrations, temperature, and solution pH.

Effect of Sensitizing Treatment on the Microstructure and Susceptibility to Intergranular Corrosion of High-Nitrogen Austenitic Stainless Steel

Wenqian Zhou et al.

Summary: The experiment investigated the effect of different sensitizing treatment times at 800 degrees C on the microstructure and intergranular corrosion of high-nitrogen austenitic stainless steel. Results showed that increasing sensitizing time led to significant growth of austenite grains and increased carbide quantity at grain boundaries, causing an increase in intergranular corrosion susceptibility.
