The Using of Nanoparticles of Microalgae in Remediation of Toxic Dye from Industrial Wastewater: Kinetic and Isotherm Studies

Abdallah Tageldein Mansour et al.

Summary: This study investigated the ability of Arthrospira platensis nanoparticles to remove the toxic Methylene Blue Dye from synthetic aqueous solutions through batch adsorption experiments. The results showed that the nanoparticles had a high adsorption capacity under optimal conditions and that the adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. The study also demonstrated that the adsorbents could be regenerated and easily recycled.

Adsorption mechanism of a cationic dye on a biomass-derived micro- and mesoporous carbon: structural, kinetic, and equilibrium insight

Hosein Banna Motejadded Emrooz et al.

Summary: This research investigated the adsorption characteristics of methylene blue on Azolla-derived micro- and mesoporous carbon, finding that the porous activated carbon has a high adsorption capacity and the diffusion of methylene blue is a limiting factor in the adsorption process. Furthermore, the degree of graphitization of the carbon material decreases during adsorption, and surface nitrogen functional groups have an influence on the adsorption of methylene blue.

Evaluation of toxicity and mutagenicity of a synthetic effluent containing azo dye after Advanced Oxidation Process treatment

Barbara Lopes Alderete et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the toxicity and mutagenic capacity of a synthetic effluent containing Amido Black 10B (AB10B) azo dye before and after treatment with Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP). The treated effluent showed 100% immobility to D. magna after treatment, while the original effluent induced chromosomal mutations in A. cepa test, but did not induce gene mutations in S. typhimurium strains.

Impact of Chitosan on Water Stability and Wettability of Soils

Agnieszka Adamczuk et al.

Summary: The study found that chitosan with a lower molecular mass was more effective in increasing the water stability of soil compared to chitosan with a higher molecular mass. After ten wetting-drying cycles, the water stability of the soil aggregates increased significantly, with some cases showing a 1.5 to 20 times increase. Addition of low-molecular-mass chitosan led to a significant increase in water stability, sometimes up to one to two hundred times higher than untreated soil. Further studies will focus on determining which soil properties are responsible for the effectiveness of chitosan action.

Sustainable Superheated Water Hydrolysis of Black Soldier Fly Exuviae for Chitin Extraction and Use of the Obtained Chitosan in the Textile Field

Parag S. Bhavsar et al.

Summary: In this study, proteins were extracted from defatted black soldier fly exuviae using superheated water, while the remaining chitin was deacetylated into chitosan and used as a finishing agent for polyester fabrics. A total of 7% fat, 40% proteins, and 20% chitin were obtained from the exuviae. The purity of chitin and obtained chitosan were assessed using FTIR and thermal analysis. Preliminary study showed successful use of chitosan as a finishing agent for polyester fabrics.

Use of hen feathers to remove Reactive Black 5 and Basic Red 46 from aqueous solutions

Tomasz Jozwiak et al.

Summary: This study investigated the sorption of RB5 and BR46 dyes on hen feathers, finding different sorption effectiveness at different pH levels. The kinetic study revealed that the sorption process followed a pseudo-first order model, and the sorbent had a maximal sorption capacity. The Langmuir models suggested only one type of sorption center played a key role in the sorption process.
