Multi-scale modeling method for polycrystalline materials considering grain boundary misorientation angle

Youle Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper presents a multi-scale modeling method considering grain boundary misorientation angle (GBMA) to accurately describe the mechanical behavior of polycrystalline materials. By comprehensively considering GBMA information at grain and atomic scales, the proposed method achieves high simulation accuracy. Furthermore, models with different GBMAs were established to study their influence on the mechanical properties of polycrystalline materials.

Influences of grain size, temperature, and strain rate on mechanical properties of Al0.3CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloys

Thi-Nhai Vu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical properties and deformation behaviours of Al0.3CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloys (HEA) under tension tests by using molecular dynamics simulations. The effect of different grain sizes, temperatures, and strain rates are examined. The results show that grain size has a significant influence on the mechanical properties of the alloy, with different deformation mechanisms observed in the inverse Hall-Petch and Hall-Petch regimes.

Effect of short-range ordering and grain boundary segregation on shear deformation of CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloys with Al addition

Rita Babicheva et al.

Summary: A method combining molecular dynamics (MD) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulation was used to analyze the short-range ordering and grain boundary (GB) segregation in the bi-crystals of equiatomic CoCrFeNi and Al (8 at%)-CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloys (HEAs). The study found that the GB segregation greatly influences the deformation behavior of the alloys, with aluminum atom segregation increasing the shear yield strength.

Microstructure and properties of a Co-free Fe50Mn27Ni10Cr13 high entropy alloy

Raymond Kwesi Nutor et al.

Summary: The research focused on the microstructure, mechanical, and corrosion properties of a cost-effective HEA alloy, demonstrating excellent strength and ductility due to the formation of stacking faults and nano-twins during tensile deformation. The alloy also exhibited good corrosion resistance, mainly dependent on the amount of Mn-oxide in the passive film.

Investigation of aluminum concentration on stacking fault energies of hexagonal close-packed high-entropy alloys Hf0.25Ti0.25Zr0.25Sc0.25-xAlx (x < 15%)

Xiao-Tao Chen et al.

Summary: The addition of aluminum reduces the stacking fault energy of hexagonal close-packed high-entropy alloys, improving ductility, creep resistance, and yield strength. Replacing Sc with Al enhances the covalent bonding and reduces energy difference during sliding, lowering the SFE.

Effect of annealing temperatures on microstructure and deformation behavior of Al0.1CrFeCoNi high-entropy alloy

S. W. Wu et al.

Summary: The study explored the microstructure and deformation behavior of the Al0.1CrFeCoNi high-entropy alloy at different annealing temperatures, revealing that the 873 K-annealed specimens exhibited a good combination of strength and ductility. The relationship between yield strength and average grain sizes followed the Hall-Petch equation with a high Hall-Petch coefficient. Nanotwinning was found to be the cause of specific regimes in the strain-hardening rate versus true strain curves for different annealed samples.

Magnetically driven short-range order can explain anomalous measurements in CrCoNi

Flynn Walsh et al.

Summary: The presence, nature, and impact of chemical short-range order in the multi-principal element alloy CrCoNi are currently under debate, with first-principles calculations revealing a magnetic origin to this phenomenon. Models based on magnetic interactions are found to explain experimental anomalies, suggesting that short-range order of this type may be more common than previously realized.
