Activated Carbon and Carbon Quantum Dots/Titanium Dioxide Composite Based on Waste Rice Noodles: Simultaneous Synthesis and Application in Water Pollution Control

Xinyan Jin et al.

Summary: Activated carbon and carbon quantum dots/titanium dioxide composite were successfully synthesized using waste rice noodle as raw material. Both materials showed potential applications in water pollution control. The activated carbon displayed efficient absorption of heavy metal elements, while the carbon quantum dots/titanium dioxide composite showed better photocatalytic degradation performance of water-soluble dyes under visible light irradiation.

Removal Effect of Basic Oxygen Furnace Slag Porous Asphalt Concrete on Copper and Zinc in Road Runoff

Tianyuan Yang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that using basic oxygen furnace (BOF) slag as aggregate in porous asphalt concrete can improve the removal capacity of heavy metals from road runoff, with a particularly effective removal rate for copper. While zinc removal is more susceptible to rainfall intensity, under light rain conditions, BOF slag porous asphalt concrete maintains removal rates of over 60% for both copper and zinc, meeting standards for irrigation water and wastewater discharge.

Recovery of Polluted Urban Stormwater Containing Heavy Metals: Laboratory-Based Experiments with Arlita and Filtralite

Concepcion Pla et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Filtralite lightweight aggregate performs better in removing heavy metals compared to Arlita, showing higher adsorption capacity for all metals and lower release of metals into washing water from contaminated particles. The removal efficiency of Arlita and Filtralite for individual contaminants in solution were 76% and 90% respectively. The use of Filtralite presents promising potential to remove heavy metals from urban stormwaters.

Modeling a Three-Stage Biological Trickling Filter Based on the A2O Process for Sewage Treatment

Jiabin Liang et al.

Summary: This study utilized a biological trickling filter based on anaerobic-anoxic-oxic process (A2O-BTF) and optimized its operational parameters using simulation software. The results indicated better performance of A2O-BTF in terms of COD, TN, NH3-N, and TP removal compared to conventional biological trickling filters.
