A Critical Review on Artificial Intelligence for Fuel Cell Diagnosis

Somasundaram Chandra Kishore et al.

Summary: Fuel cell technology has gained traction in stationary power production in recent years. However, the confined temperature and humidity range of fuel cells make them difficult to regulate and prone to defects and deterioration. Two primary approaches for diagnosis are restricted input information and advanced characterization. Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, such as artificial neural networks and support vector machines, show promise for accurate diagnosis and quick data collection. This study focuses on software models that allow users to evaluate multiple possibilities in a short time and provides recommendations for future machine learning methodologies in fuel cell diagnostics.

Proton exchange membrane fuel cell performance prediction using artificial neural network

Tabbi Wilberforce et al.

Summary: The study investigates the use of neural networks to predict voltage and current of proton exchange membrane fuel cells, suggesting that the performance of group method data handling neural network is superior to feed forward back propagation neural network. It is proposed that increasing reactant flow rate directly affects cell performance, but should be lower compared to oxygen flow rate for reduced irreversibilities and operating costs.

Artificial intelligence for time-efficient prediction and optimization of solid oxide fuel cell performances

Vanja Subotic et al.

Summary: Reliability and durability are critical for accelerating the commercialization of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). A prognostic framework based on artificial neural network (ANN) was developed in this study to predict SOFC performance, showing good agreement with measured data except for very low current densities. Increasing system complexity required more neurons per hidden layer and epochs for accurate predictions.

Modeling the SOFC by BP neural network algorithm

Shaohui Song et al.

Summary: Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are complex systems with coupling of multiple physics fields, making performance prediction difficult and high operation temperature challenging for experimental test. Artificial intelligence technology requires less experimental data for accurate modeling. Experimental results show that BP neural network has optimal prediction accuracy, generalization ability, and testing time.
