Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Porous NiTi Alloy Prepared by Integration of Gel-Casting and Microwave Sintering

Summary: Porous NiTi alloys were successfully manufactured through the integration of gel-casting and microwave sintering techniques. The study demonstrated that increasing the sintering temperature resulted in a decrease in porosity and mean pore diameter, while increasing the content of the NiTi phase, the elastic modulus, and compressive strength of the sintered samples. Porous NiTi alloys with desirable properties were obtained when the gel body with 50 vol.% solid loading was microwave sintered at 1000 degrees C for 30 min.
