FRP-laminated Rubber Isolator: Theoretical Study and Shake Table Test on Isolated Building

Di Wu et al.

Summary: The performance of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP)-laminated rubber isolators has been investigated through theoretical and experimental analyses. The effective horizontal stiffness of the isolators was analyzed through cyclic quasi-static experiments. Shake table tests were conducted to assess the seismic behavior and efficiency of the FRP-laminated rubber isolators under different site conditions. Experimental studies showed that FRP-laminated rubber isolators have many advantages and can be used to enhance the seismic capacity of building structures.

Probability Distribution Characteristics and Statistical Parameters of the Horizontal Stiffness of Rubber Isolation Bearings

Ruijun Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the distribution characteristics of the horizontal stiffness of rubber bearings and its influence on the seismic performance of isolation structures. An optimization method to reduce the variation of bearing stiffness is proposed, and statistical analysis and probability distribution tests are conducted based on the equivalent shear stiffness samples of 224 rubber bearings. The results show that the stiffness follows the I-type minimum-value distribution. The study concludes that the probability distribution form of the rubber bearings stiffness has a certain influence on the adjustment coefficient of the isolation structure, but the damping effect of the structure still has sufficient safety reserve.

The effects of modeling uncertainties on the residual drift of steel structures under mainshock-aftershock sequences

Mohammad Ch Basim et al.

Summary: The uncertainty in parameters defining the behavior of yielding components in structures affects the accuracy of predicting near-collapse behavior. This study investigates the sensitivity of residual drifts to modeling parameter uncertainties during sequential seismic events and explores the relationship between residual drifts and peak transient drifts. The findings reveal that seismic demands are more sensitive to strength and beam ductility modeling parameters, with sensitivities increasing during aftershocks.

Time-dependent seismic reliability of isolated bridges considering ageing deterioration of lead rubber bearings

Hiroshi Matsuzaki

Summary: This study presents a seismic reliability assessment methodology for isolated bridges that considers the ageing deterioration of the lead rubber bearings. It was found that setting an adequate capacity hierarchy between the isolator and the column can significantly improve the seismic safety of the bridges by preventing the rupture of the isolator.

Effects of temperature, analysis and modelling uncertainties on the reliability of base-isolated bridges in Eastern Canada

Mohamad Nassar et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the seismic reliability and its variation range of a typical base-isolated bridge in Montreal. Random variables such as temperature, seismic hazard, and parameters affecting bridge resistance are modeled to evaluate the reliability and failure probability. Epistemic uncertainties associated with seismic response analysis method and heating effect are included, and their effects on the bridge reliability are investigated. The results show that these uncertainties have an impact on the overall reliability of the bridge.

Wei Zhou et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the sealing effect of the FRR under static compression in roller bits, demonstrating that the Yeoh_revised model provides a more accurate prediction of the sealing effect, contributing to prolonging the service life of the FRR.

Numerical and experimental study of mechanical behaviors of the steel-confined rubber bearing

Di Wu et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new type of steel-confined rubber bearing (SCRB) by replacing the horizontal laminated steel plates in a conventional rubber bearing with externally confined steel plates, achieving three-dimensional seismic isolation. Experimental and numerical results demonstrate that the SCRB has low stiffness and additional damping, effectively reducing horizontal and vertical seismic responses.
