Failure analysis of a high-speed induction machine driven by a SiC-inverter and operating on a common shaft with a high-speed generator

Lukasz Brenkacz et al.

Summary: This article presents a prototype test rig for testing high speed motors/generators. The rig features a unique design where two high speed machines share a single shaft without support bearings between them. To minimize vibration at high rotational speeds, rolling bearings are used. Additionally, a voltage source inverter with high precision output voltage generation is used to eliminate the influence of higher harmonics on the system.

Comparable analysis of PID controller settings in order to ensure reliable operation of active foil bearings

Lukasz Witanowski et al.

Summary: Compared to traditional solutions, active bearings provide greater operating flexibility and better operating conditions over a wider range of rotational speeds. A bearing control system is used to ensure optimum bearing performance by adapting to different geometries during device operation. This paper presents a method for selecting PID controller parameters, comparing stochastic algorithms and hybrid methods. The results show that the hybrid algorithm had the best repeatability and lowest standard deviation among all runs.

Effect of Water Absorption on Tribological Properties of Thermoplastics Matrix Composites Reinforced with Glass Fibres

Mariusz Walczak et al.

Summary: This study investigated the water absorption and its effect on tribological behavior of thermoplastic matrix composites. Polyamide 6-based composites showed less water absorption compared to PA66-based composites, and composites with higher glass fiber content exhibited lower water absorption. After water absorption testing, the tribological results showed increased coefficient of friction and wear rate. The wear mechanism primarily occurred at the polymer matrix-glass fiber interfaces.

Constitutive Law Identification and Fatigue Characterization of Rigid PUR Elastomers 80 ShA and 90 ShA

Krzysztof Junik et al.

Summary: This paper presents the results of a study on the constitutive law identification of polyurethane rigid elastomers and analyzes the effect of polyurethane elastomers' hardness on fatigue properties. An appropriate constitutive model was determined based on experimental and numerical-experimental analyses, and it was found that the energy approach is more suitable for describing the fatigue process. Simple fatigue characteristics were analyzed and statistically validated for two configurations of polyurethane materials.

Comparative analysis of surface characteristics of Nylon based polymer gears manufactured by different techniques

Mohit Jain et al.

Summary: The present paper conducted a comparative analysis of the surface characteristics of Nylon based polymer gears manufactured by different techniques. The findings showed that the injection molded gears had the smallest surface roughness, while the machined and printed gears had higher surface roughness. In terms of hardness, the machined and printed gears had similar values, while the injection molded gears had comparatively lower hardness.

Analysis of the Statistical Comparability of the Hardness and Wear of Polymeric Materials for Orthodontic Applications

Ivo Domagala et al.

Summary: The study compared indentation hardness, scratch hardness, and sliding wear of four polymeric materials used in orthodontic appliances, with results showing that the scratch hardness method allows for a more explicit ranking of materials when measured with a profilometer. The ranking of sliding wear resistance should be conducted separately.
