#BetterHealth: A qualitative analysis of reactions to the UK government's better health campaign

Summary: This study analyzed reactions to the UK government's Better Health campaign on Twitter, and identified four main themes: Embracing Better Health, the importance of mental health in overall health, inconsistent messaging, and the campaign's superficial approach to health issues. The study suggests that the campaign's lack of consideration for mental health and social factors may have negative impacts, particularly for individuals with eating disorders. Recommendations are made to develop future campaigns that minimize harm and maximize benefits.

By invoking fear of cancer as the consequence of obesity, the advertisements may not create sustained behavioral change, leading to a recommendation that CRUK discontinue the use of such strategies in future social marketing endeavors.
