#BetterHealth: A qualitative analysis of reactions to the UK government's better health campaign

Catherine Talbot et al.

Summary: This study analyzed reactions to the UK government's Better Health campaign on Twitter, and identified four main themes: Embracing Better Health, the importance of mental health in overall health, inconsistent messaging, and the campaign's superficial approach to health issues. The study suggests that the campaign's lack of consideration for mental health and social factors may have negative impacts, particularly for individuals with eating disorders. Recommendations are made to develop future campaigns that minimize harm and maximize benefits.

Cancer survivorship, excess body fatness and weight-loss intervention-where are we in 2020?

Annie S. Anderson et al.

Summary: With the increasing number of cancer survivors, there is a growing realization that excess body fat may impact the quality of survivorship. While past discussions focused on unintended weight loss and interventions to increase weight in cancer patients, there is now a need to study the benefits of intentional fat loss and muscle maintenance for overweight and obese survivors.

Cancer Research UK'S obesity campaign in 2018 and 2019: effective health promotion or perpetuating the stigmatisation of obesity?

Natasha Varshney

Summary: While CRUK's advertisements aimed to deliver an important message, they oversimplified obesity as the result of personal decisions, neglecting its complex etiology and potentially stigmatizing the target demographic. By invoking fear of cancer as the consequence of obesity, the advertisements may not create sustained behavioral change, leading to a recommendation that CRUK discontinue the use of such strategies in future social marketing endeavors.

Association of Obesity With Survival Outcomes in Patients With Cancer A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Fausto Petrelli et al.

Summary: Obesity is associated with increased mortality in cancer patients overall, but patients with obesity and certain types of cancer such as lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and melanoma may have better survival outcomes compared to non-obese patients with the same cancers. Weight-reducing strategies could potentially help reduce mortality in these patients.

Impact of post-diagnosis weight change on survival outcomes in Black and White breast cancer patients

Lihua Shang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated weight change patterns and survival outcomes in Black and White breast cancer patients. The results showed that BMI loss is a strong predictor of worse breast cancer outcomes, while BMI gain is also associated with poorer survival, although to a lesser extent. The study emphasizes the importance of monitoring weight changes post-diagnosis for improved survival in breast cancer patients.
