Mapping the abject: Women's embodied experiences of premenstrual body dissatisfaction through body-mapping

Samantha Ryan et al.

Summary: This study explores how women who experience premenstrual body dissatisfaction construct and experience their bodies. The findings suggest that women perceive their premenstrual body as abject, self-police and regulate their bodies, and resist cultural constructions of femininity. These findings highlight the importance of recognizing changes in body dissatisfaction across the menstrual cycle and their impact on women's self-perception.
