Effect of MIND diet intervention on cognitive performance and brain structure in healthy obese women: a randomized controlled trial

Golnaz Arjmand et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of the MIND dietary pattern on cognitive performance and brain structure in healthy obese women. The results showed that the participants who followed the MIND diet experienced improved memory and attention, and had changes in brain structure. The study findings suggest that the MIND diet intervention can reverse the negative effects of obesity on cognition and brain structure.

Tosca O. E. de Crom et al.

Summary: According to the Rotterdam Study, adhering to the MIND diet is associated with a decreased risk of dementia, especially within the first years of follow-up. However, this association may be partly influenced by reverse causality and residual confounding by lifestyle.

Education differences in cardiometabolic risk in England, Scotland and the United States between 1992 and 2019

Summary: Education differences in cardiometabolic risk have either increased or remained stable over the past 30 years in high-income countries. Individuals with no education have higher cardiometabolic risk, and this difference also exists for factors such as blood pressure, glycated haemoglobin, cholesterol, and body mass index.

Associations of Acculturation and Gender with Obesity and Physical Activity among Latinos

Zully C. Guerra et al.

Summary: Acculturation plays a role in overweight/obesity and insufficient physical activity among Latino population. This study found that greater Spanish proficiency was associated with lower odds of insufficient physical activity, while greater American Cultural Identity was associated with higher odds of overweight/obesity. Women were more likely to endorse insufficient physical activity compared to men. Gender did not moderate the relationship between acculturation and either overweight/obesity or physical activity.

Shifting to a Sustainable Dietary Pattern in Iranian Population: Current Evidence and Future Directions

Seyyed Reza Sobhani et al.

Summary: The study highlights the urgent need for a shift towards a more sustainable diet in regions like Iran due to rapid climate change and vulnerability. Efforts and investments have been made to reduce sugar, salt, and fat in the Iranian diet, aligning with a sustainable health perspective. However, there is a lack of direct focus on the ecological aspect of a sustainable diet in Iran's food and nutrition policy documents. Developing an enabling environment for a sustainable diet will require policies and actions to improve public awareness, support research for evidence and alternative solutions, and implement interventions/programs promoting healthier and sustainable diets.

Impact of low-fat and full-fat dairy foods on fasting lipid profile and blood pressure: exploratory endpoints of a randomized controlled trial

Kelsey A. Schmidt et al.

Summary: The study compared the effects of diets limited in dairy or rich in low-fat or full-fat dairy on cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in participants with metabolic syndrome. Results showed that a diet rich in full-fat dairy did not have adverse effects on fasting lipid profile or blood pressure, indicating that dairy fat consumed as part of complex whole foods may not impact classic CVD risk factors negatively.
