Synthesis-Structure-Activity Relationship in Cu-MOR for Partial Methane Oxidation: Al Siting via Inorganic Structure-Directing Agents

Sebastian Prodinger et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers successfully synthesized Cu-MOR materials with different inclinations for the selective oxidation of methane by varying the relative proportion of aluminum situated near the 8-rings and 12-rings of MOR zeolite. The study confirmed the discrete changes of aluminum within the unit cell through spectroscopic techniques and adsorption experiments, and found that Cu2+ species were the active sites in the selective oxidation of methane.

Methane Activation by a Mononuclear Copper Active Site in the Zeolite Mordenite: Effect of Metal Nuclearity on Reactivity

Alexander J. Heyer et al.

Summary: In this study, a mononuclear [CuOH](+) active site in the autoreduced zeolite was unambiguously defined, and its reactivity was compared to the previously defined [Cu2O](2+) active site. The increased reactivity of the binuclear site was attributed to electron delocalization over the two Cu cations via the bridging ligand.

Identification of Kinetic and Spectroscopic Signatures of Copper Sites for Direct Oxidation of Methane to Methanol

Vitaly L. Sushkevich et al.

Summary: In this study, the kinetic behavior of different copper species during the conversion of methane to methanol was tracked using spectroscopic techniques. Two copper monomers and a copper dimeric species were identified as active in the reaction. The reaction rate of copper monomers was found to be somewhat slower but with an activation energy two times lower than that of the dicopper mono-mu-oxo species.

Relationship between zeolite structure and capture capability for radioactive cesium and strontium

Songhyeon Kwon et al.

Summary: Zeolites with high Si/Al ratios exhibit enhanced affinity to Cs+ ions, while zeolites containing 8-membered rings show extra-high selectivity for Cs+. In contrast, the affinity of Sr2+ ions to zeolites decreases as the Si/Al ratio increases, and Sr2+ exchange is less dependent on zeolite structures due to strong hydration. The kinetics of Sr2+ exchange is slower than that of Cs+ exchange due to the bulkiness of hydrated Sr2+ ions, with larger micropore channels beneficial for faster exchange kinetics.

Spectroscopic Definition of a Highly Reactive Site in Cu-CHA for Selective Methane Oxidation: Tuning a Mono-μ-Oxo Dicopper(II) Active Site for Reactivity

Hannah M. Rhoda et al.

Summary: Experimental and theoretical studies show that the [Cu2O](2+) core in Cu-CHA exhibits higher reactivity towards methane to form methanol compared to the [Cu2O](2+) core in Cu-MFI, attributed to the stronger [Cu2OH](2+) bond and the relative orientation of coordinating bidentate O-Al-O T-sites. This work provides insights into how zeolite lattice constraints can impact active site reactivity.
