Elucidating the Critical Role of Ruthenium Single Atom Sites in Water Dissociation and Dehydrogenation Behaviors for Robust Hydrazine Oxidation-Boosted Alkaline Hydrogen Evolution

Jiachen Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the synthesis of ruthenium single atoms (Ru SAs) anchored onto sulphur-vacancies of tungsten disulphide (WS2), leading to the development of a bifunctional catalyst for hydrazine oxidation (HzOR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The WS2/Ru SAs exhibit superior performance compared to commercial platinum (Pt) catalysts and achieve ultralow potentials for both HzOR and HER. Additionally, the WS2/Ru SAs can be used as both anode and cathode in an electrolyzer, enabling efficient overall water splitting.

Regulations of active moiety in single atom catalysts for electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction

Peng Zhu et al.

Summary: Hydrogen production from water splitting using renewable electric energy is a key topic for achieving a carbon neutral future. Single atom catalysts (SACs) have emerged as a new frontier in catalysis, particularly in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), due to their high activity and excellent chemical selectivity. However, the influence of the neighboring coordinated atoms from the supports is often neglected in the classification of SACs. This review proposes a new classification method based on the type of supports and highlights the importance of the metal-support interaction and coordination environment. Structural designing strategies are also proposed to address the current challenges in SACs for HER.

Huabin Zhang et al.

Summary: By successfully decorating isolated cobalt atoms onto the surface of ultrathin W18O49 nanowires, the charge carrier separation and electron transport in the catalytic system are greatly accelerated. The modification of the energy configuration of the W18O49@Co hybrid by surface decoration with cobalt atoms also enhances the redox capability of photoexcited electrons for CO2 reduction. The decorated cobalt atoms serve as the real active sites and act as a reaction switch to facilitate the reaction process.

La promoted CuO-MnOx catalysts for optimizing SCR performance of NO with CO

Tangkang Liu et al.

Summary: La-Cu-Mn-O catalysts with different La contents were prepared and evaluated for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction of NO by CO (CO-SCR). Lanthanum was found to be conducive in reducing the size of copper and manganese particles, preventing their agglomeration, and enhancing the reducibility of the catalysts. This led to the increase in exposed active sites and a high proportion of active ions on the surface, promoting NO conversion at lower temperatures.
