The PRIDE database resources in 2022: a hub for mass spectrometry-based proteomics evidences

Yasset Perez-Riverol et al.

Summary: PRIDE is the largest data repository of mass spectrometry-based proteomics data in the world, with around 500 datasets submitted per month. In addition to continuous improvements in data pipelines and infrastructure, PRIDE has developed the Spectra Archive and MAGE-TAB file format to enhance sample metadata annotation and access to mass spectra.

Hippocampal interneurons are direct targets for circulating glucocorticoids

Kimberly L. Kraus et al.

Summary: This study found that under baseline conditions, glucocorticoid receptors (GR) expression in parvalbumin-positive (PV+) interneurons in the hippocampus showed considerable subregion variability, while somatostatin-positive (SST+) interneurons expressed GR ubiquitously. These findings suggest anatomical diversity in the regulation of stress-dependent hippocampal responses, which may imply functional differences.

A circuit mechanism for independent modulation of excitatory and inhibitory firing rates after sensory deprivation

Leonidas M. A. Richter et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of deprivation-induced synaptic changes on excitatory and inhibitory firing rates. It reveals that a single interneuron subtype can only co-modulate the firing rates together, while independent modulation observed in experiments requires strong feedback from a second interneuron subtype.

Identifying behavioral structure from deep variational embeddings of animal motion

Kevin Luxem et al.

Summary: Variational embeddings of animal motion can automatically discover behavioral motifs and their dynamics, addressing the challenge of quantifying and detecting the hierarchical organization of behavior in neuroscience. This study presents an unsupervised probabilistic deep learning framework that identifies behavioral structure from deep variational embeddings of animal motion. It allows for the segmentation of behavior into discrete hierarchically organized motifs and captures a hierarchical representation of motif usage.

Stress and mindfulness in Parkinson's disease - a survey in 5000 patients

Anouk van der Heide et al.

Summary: Patients with Parkinson's disease perceive higher levels of stress compared to healthy controls, with stress being positively correlated with rumination, quality of life, self-compassion, and dispositional mindfulness. Stress significantly worsens both motor and non-motor symptoms in PD patients, with physical exercise being the most commonly used stress-reducing strategy and mindfulness practice showing improvement in symptoms for a significant number of patients.

New Open-Source Tools: Using Bonsai for Behavioral Tracking and Closed-Loop Experiments

Goncalo Lopes et al.

Summary: The ability to dynamically control behavioral tasks based on real-time animal behavior is crucial for experimental neuroscientists, but designing automated devices for such studies used to be challenging for most researchers. Advances in open-source hardware and software have now changed this landscape, allowing researchers to easily design simple neuroscience experiments.
