Direct visualization of the three-dimensional shape of skyrmion strings in a noncentrosymmetric magnet

S. Seki et al.

Summary: The authors used scalar magnetic X-ray tomography under applied magnetic fields to directly visualize the three-dimensional shape of individual skyrmion strings, revealing the structural dynamics of skyrmions in a non-centrosymmetric compound and contributing to a better understanding of these topological objects.

Tuning the Coexistence Regime of Incomplete and Tubular Skyrmions in Ferromagnetic/Ferrimagnetic/Ferromagnetic Trilayers

Oguz Yildirim et al.

Summary: The development of skyrmionic devices requires tuning material parameters to stabilize and control the density of skyrmions. Recent research has shown that different types of skyrmions can be simultaneously stabilized at room temperature in heterostructures containing ferromagnets, ferrimagnets, and heavy metals, offering a new platform for encoding binary information using skyrmion types instead of their presence or absence. By adjusting the geometric and material parameters of individual layers, the energy landscape of the two skyrmion types in such heterostructures can be finely tuned.

Beyond skyrmions: Review and perspectives of alternative magnetic quasiparticles

Boerge Goebel et al.

Summary: Magnetic skyrmions have attracted significant research interest since their discovery a decade ago, due to their non-trivial real-space topology and potential technological applications. However, the utilization of skyrmions in spintronic devices has not been achieved yet, mainly because of shortcomings in their current-driven motion. Additionally, beyond skyrmions, there are emerging trends in the field of topological spin textures.

Creation and observation of Hopfions in magnetic multilayer systems

Noah Kent et al.

Summary: This study presents experimental evidence for the appearance of Hopfions, topological solitons defined by a Hopf number, in a magnetic system. Three-dimensional spin textures distinguishing Hopfions from target skyrmions are characterized by magnetic images recorded with surface-sensitive X-ray photoemission electron microscopy and bulk-sensitive soft X-ray transmission microscopy using element-specific X-ray magnetic circular dichroism effects.
