Functional interactions of ion channels with the actin cytoskeleton: does coupling to dynamic actin regulate NMDA receptors?

Juliana E. Shaw et al.

Summary: Synapses are enriched in the cytoskeletal protein actin, which plays a crucial role in determining synaptic shape, organizing neurotransmitter release machinery, and supporting the activity of neurotransmitter receptors and ion channels. Actin binding proteins serve as molecular linkages between the actin cytoskeleton and various receptors, contributing to the regulation of receptor trafficking and localization at the synapse. Recent advancements in imaging techniques are expected to aid in further understanding the molecular mechanisms by which actin regulates NMDARs.

Structural basis of GABAB receptor-Gi protein coupling

Cangsong Shen et al.

Summary: This study reveals the structure of a class-C heterodimeric GABA(B) receptor in its active form complexed with Gi1 protein, showing a unique binding mode of G protein interaction compared to other classes of GPCR. The active form of the transmembrane domain of this GABA(B) receptor differs from that of other GPCRs, leading to distinctive inter- and intra-subunit changes linked to agonist binding and G-protein activation in this heterodimeric complex.

Detecting Transient Trapping from a Single Trajectory: A Structural Approach

Yann Lanoiselee et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new method for detecting transient trapping events within a single particle trajectory, considering the spatial and temporal structure of the trajectory for studying short-lived trapping domains not visited by multiple trajectories. This method is applied to beta(2)-adrenergic receptors' single particle trajectory data, revealing increased trapping of receptors in defined domains with stimulation, without affecting diffusion of free receptors.
