Proton dynamics in water confined at the interface of the graphene-MXene heterostructure

Lihua Xu et al.

Summary: The study used ab initio molecular dynamics to investigate proton transfer/diffusion and redox behavior in a water layer confined within the graphene-Ti3C2O2 heterostructure, finding different interface structures and electric fields impacted proton redox rate. Water molecules in the graphene-Ti3C2O2 interface formed a denser hydrogen-bond network with preferred orientation, increasing proton mobility initially but decreasing with higher proton concentration due to surface redox events binding with surface O atoms. Insights were provided on how dissimilar interfaces and their properties affect proton transfer and redox in confined spaces.

Temperature influence on Ti3C2Tx lines printed by aerosol jet printing

Michela Borghetti et al.

Summary: Aerosol jet printing (AJP) is a promising technology for fabricating sensors and electronics due to its flexibility in ink and substrate selection. This study demonstrates the uniform deposition and good repeatability of printing Ti3C2Tx ink on PET-based sheets using AJP, and estimates the temperature effects on resistance. By varying the number of printed layers and patterns, the morphology and resistance can be analyzed effectively.

Predicting the Pseudocapacitive Windows for MXene Electrodes with Voltage-Dependent Cluster Expansion Models

James M. Goff et al.

Summary: The study predicts the charge storage performance of MXene transition-metal carbides and nitrides as pseudocapacitive electrodes using voltage-dependent cluster expansion models, showing that electrodes based on group-VI transition metals have higher areal energy densities and increased pseudocapacitance due to larger Faradaic voltage windows. Multiple ions in the solvent also lead to sharp changes in the transition-metal oxidation states, significantly increasing the charge capacity of MXene pseudocapacitors.

Electrochemical Visualization of Gas Bubbles on Superaerophobic Electrodes Using Scanning Electrochemical Cell Microscopy

Yulong Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the individual gas bubble nucleation and dynamics on nanoscale electrodes were investigated using scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM). The nanostructured catalyst surface showed significantly less supersaturation for gas bubble nucleation and a notable increase of bubble detachment compared to its flat counterpart. The results suggest that deliberate microstructure design on a catalyst surface is a promising strategy for improving electrocatalytic gas evolution in terms of both bubble nucleation and elimination.
