How Valley-Orbit States in Silicon Quantum Dots Probe Quantum Well Interfaces

J. P. Dodson et al.

Summary: In this study, measurements and calculations of the energies of "valley-orbit" states in silicon quantum dots were conducted to understand the interplay between interface roughness, orbital confinement, and electron interactions. The results provide insights into the physical contributions and offer a new approach to probe the quantum well interface.

Enhanced valley splitting in Si layers with oscillatory Ge concentration

Yi Feng et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the problem of valley degeneracy in Si qubit devices and introduces the wiggle well architecture as a solution. The theoretical analysis and model calculations show the overall magnitude of the effect and its dependence on the wavelength of concentration oscillations. A selection rule is derived to limit the effectiveness of the wiggle well under certain circumstances.

Origin of giant valley splitting in silicon quantum wells induced by superlattice barriers

Gang Wang et al.

Summary: This study successfully simplifies complex SiGe heterostructures to develop stable silicon spin qubits while maintaining a sizable valley splitting. The (Ge4Si4)n SL barriers show excellent performance in enhancing valley splitting and have the potential to overcome the valley splitting challenge of SiGe heterostructures.

Coherent Control and Spectroscopy of a Semiconductor Quantum Dot Wigner Molecule

J. Corrigan et al.

Summary: This study reports quantum control of eight different transitions in a silicon-based quantum dot, revealing a dense set of energy levels with characteristic spacing far smaller than the single-particle energy, which is argued to arise from Wigner-molecule physics.

Valley splittings in Si/SiGe quantum dots with a germanium spike in the silicon well

Thomas McJunkin et al.

Summary: Researchers successfully modified the Si/SiGe heterostructure by introducing a spike in germanium concentration, resulting in an increased valley splitting. Experimental evidence showed that the doubling effect of valley splitting was robust and nearly independent of external factors, laying a foundation for future heterostructure modifications.
