Smart Contact Lens with Dual-Sensing Platform for Monitoring Intraocular Pressure and Matrix Metalloproteinase-9

Ying Ye et al.

Summary: Contact lens sensors have become a popular wearable device for monitoring health. However, they often require complex electronics and can only detect one analyte. A new optical-based dual-functional smart contact lens sensor has been introduced to monitor intraocular pressure (IOP) and detect matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). This provides a convenient and noninvasive sensing platform for monitoring health and diagnostic biomarkers in human tears.

Noninvasive Diagnosis of Gastric Cancer Based on Breath Analysis with a Tubular Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering Sensor

Liping Huang et al.

Summary: SERS-based breath analysis is an emerging noninvasive diagnostic method with potential in gastric cancer screening. In this study, eight compounds in human breath were identified as VOC biomarkers using GC-MS, and a tubular SERS sensor was used for diagnosis. By modifying the sensor with metal-organic framework materials and 4-aminothiophenol, the capture efficiency was improved, resulting in higher diagnostic accuracy.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
