Abrasive Wear Performance of Jute-Glass-Carbon-Reinforced Composites: Effect of Stacking Sequence and Fibers Relative Amounts

M. A. Abd El-Baky et al.

Summary: The study found that hybridizing glass-reinforced composite with jute and/or carbon fibers can improve the wear resistance of the resulting composite; stacking sequence has a slight effect on wear resistance, while fibers relative amounts have a visible effect; water absorption significantly decreases the wear resistance of the studied composites.

Solid particle erosive wear behaviour of Eulaliopsis binata fiber reinforced epoxy composite

Subhrajit Pradhan et al.

Summary: The novel study focuses on developing a new class of polymer composite material using Eulaliopsis binata fiber as reinforcement with epoxy resin for tribological applications. The inclusion of the fiber improves erosion wear resistance and changes the nature of neat epoxy from brittle to semi ductile. Impact velocity of erodent particles significantly affects the erosion behavior of the composites, which is analyzed through SEM to determine the failure mechanism.

Abrasive wear and dynamic-mechanical behavior of marble dust filled bagasse fiber reinforced hybrid polymer composites

Tej Singh et al.

Summary: The study explored the influence of waste materials on various properties of polymer composites, such as physico-mechanical, dynamic mechanical, and abrasive wear behavior. It was found that increasing the waste bagasse fiber loading led to improvements in density, impact energy, and flexural strength, while decreasing hardness and tensile strength after an optimal level. The composites with 10 wt% waste bagasse fiber showed the highest viscoelastic properties. Additionally, the Taguchi method was used to investigate the dry sand abrasive wear behavior, revealing that sliding distance had the most significant contribution to the wear of the composites.
