Who is Responsible for Discharge Education of Patients? A Multi-Institutional Survey of Internal Medicine Residents

Shreya P. Trivedi et al.

Summary: The study found that there is uncertainty among residents about who is primarily responsible for discharge communication. Residents who believed either themselves or interns were primarily responsible reported more frequent discharge communication practices compared to those who were unsure. To improve multidisciplinary discharge communication, residents suggested clarifying roles and responsibilities, setting communication expectations among team members, and redefining the culture around discharges.
