Evaluation of the effect of microphone cavity geometries on acoustic imaging in wind tunnels

Colin VanDercreek et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the interference on flush-mounted microphone arrays on the walls of closed-section wind tunnels and the effectiveness of three different microphone cavity geometries for mitigating this issue. The results showed that cavities made of melamine significantly improved the signal-to-noise ratio, provided cleaner acoustic source maps, and more accurate spectral estimations.

Evaluation of Aeroacoustic Performance of a Helmholtz Resonator System with Different Resonator Cavity Shapes in the Presence of a Grazing Flow

Hadi Dastourani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of resonator cavity shape on the aeroacoustic performance of a Helmholtz resonator system. By utilizing a three-dimensional numerical approach and considering various Mach numbers, it was found that changing the resonator cavity shape can significantly affect the acoustic performance, with variations in resonant frequency and peak transmission loss. Spheres and cylinders were shown to have better performance compared to other considered cavity shapes.
