Mitochondrial genome of Rhipicephalus cf. camicasi Morel, Mouchet et Rodhain, 1976 from a camel (Camelus dromedarius Linnaeus) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Shona Chandra et al.

Summary: In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of a tick species resembling R. camicasi was sequenced and compared. The results showed high similarity to the mitochondrial genomes of R. sanguineus and R. linnaei. This study provides a molecular reference for R. camicasi.

The mitogenome of the sunken wood limpet Notocrater youngi: insights into mitogenome evolution in Lepetellida (Gastropoda: Vetigastropoda)

Summary: The complete mitochondrial genome of the pseudococculinid limpet Notocrater youngi was determined and found to have a different gene order compared to other known species. Phylogenetic analysis confirms the classification of three pseudococculinid species in a clade but challenges the current understanding of the monophyly of Lepetellida.

Description of eight new species of Ixodes Latreille, 1795 (Acari: Ixodidae) and redescription of I. auritulus Neumann, 1904, parasites of birds in the Australasian, Nearctic and Neotropical Regions

Dmitry A. Apanaskevich et al.

Summary: This article describes eight new species of ticks (Ixodes brevisetosus, Ixodes contrarius, Ixodes guglielmonei, Ixodes insulae, Ixodes moralesi, Ixodes rio, Ixodes robbinsi, Ixodes tinamou) based on females, nymphs and larvae collected from avian hosts and a rodent. These new species show similarities to Ixodes auritulus, but can be distinguished by different morphological characteristics. The subspecies Ixodes auritulus zealandicus is elevated to species status. The study also evaluates the actual species richness in the I. auritulus species group and discusses future directions in the systematics of this group of ticks.

Soft and hard ticks (Parasitiformes: Ixodida) on humans: A review of Brazilian biomes and the impact of environmental change

Barbara Cristina Felix Nogueira et al.

Summary: Records of accidental parasitism by ticks in humans are scarce in Brazil, mainly reported by researchers and professionals. A literature review was conducted including studies published from 1909 to 2022. The study identified nine species in the Argasidae family and 32 species in the Ixodidae family that have been reported biting humans in Brazilian biomes. The species with the highest number of parasitism records was Amblyomma sculptum. The Atlantic Forest was the most frequent biome where human parasitism occurred. Several species known for transmitting pathogens were also reported.

Summary: The genus Amblyomma, distributed around the world, is important for ecology, economy, and public health. This study used probabilistic methods to analyze the phylogenetic relationships of Amblyomma in America, revealing new sequences for endangered species. While many phylogenetic relationships had strong statistical support, more molecular data from different species are needed for better phylogenetic estimates.

Summary: MEGA software, a mature tool for computational molecular evolution, has been enhanced with new additions for building timetrees of species, pathogens, and gene families using rapid relaxed-clock methods. These additions include methods for estimating divergence times, confidence intervals, and new options for tagging sequences with spatiotemporal sampling information. The enhancements aim to improve user experience, result quality, and the pace of biological discovery.
