Effect of the incorporation of NaOH-treated wood aggregates on thermal and mechanical properties of plaster mortar

Insaf Mehrez et al.

Summary: The recycling potential of wood aggregates in building insulation has been investigated. The use of untreated wood aggregates improves thermal insulation but decreases mechanical strength, while optimal chemical treatment enhances mechanical properties and reduces water uptake. The research confirms the possibility of reusing wood aggregates in new mortars for insulation and building applications.

Valorization of Posidonia-Oceanica leaves for the building insulation sector

Insaf Mehrez et al.

Summary: A new bio-composite material made from Posidonia-Oceanica leaves is proposed for building thermal insulation. Results show that the fiber loading has a significant impact on the mechanical and thermal characteristics, and alkali treatment can improve the compressive and flexural strength of the bio-composites. The proposed bio-composite has low thermal conductivity and acceptable mechanical performances, making it a suitable option for thermal insulation material.
