Chemical and Physicochemical Characterization of Alkali Pretreated and in Natura Sisal Solid Waste

Gabriel Nunes Guerra et al.

Summary: Alkaline pretreatment can enhance the digestibility and physicochemical properties of solid waste from sisal fiber, making it a viable option for biorefinery feedstock and composite production. Chemical pretreatment resulted in increased cellulose content, improved thermal stability and crystallinity, as well as increased surface area of the sisal solid waste.

Compression Properties of Two Novel Natural Luffa Mattress Filling Materials

Yuxia Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the performance of luffa cylinders as mattress filling materials, showing that the compressive strength and plateau stress of both high-density and low-density LCs are closely related to their density, with the former being approximately 3 times that of the latter. The compression treatment of the LCs significantly affects the firmness of luffa mattresses, with the denseification stage increasing the D-core of low-density luffa mattresses and decreasing the D-core of high-density luffa mattresses.

Comparison of Various Chemical Treatments Efficiency in Relation to the Properties of Flax, Hemp Fibers and Cotton trichomes

D. Matykiewicz et al.

Summary: The main objective of the study was to chemically modify plant fiber surfaces, with silanization proving to be the most effective method in enhancing fiber thermal stability and moisture resistance. Additionally, mercerization and benzoylation methods also yielded satisfactory results in improving fiber properties.

Anisometric granular materials: compression and shear properties

Vera Penkavova et al.

Summary: Experimental study on random layers of dry coarse anisometric grains of eight different materials was conducted, evaluating static and dynamic parameters of compression and shear tests. The relationship between compaction and flow properties was determined based on compression and shear models parameters, with results compared to published data on common powders.
