Practical application of bacteriophage in food manufacturing facilities for the control of Listeria sp.

Summary: This study assessed the effectiveness of a bacteriophage in controlling Listeria in food manufacturing environments. Two application strategies were tested, and the results showed that the bacteriophage could reduce the incidence of Listeria in both refrigerated and ambient temperature facilities. This could be considered as an additional intervention strategy for controlling Listeria on nonfood contact surfaces.

Summary: Both pasteurized and unpasteurized dairy products can cause disease outbreaks, but outbreaks from unpasteurized products have more cases and higher mortality rates. Listeria is the main pathogen responsible for outbreaks from pasteurized products. Continued public warnings about the risk of consuming unpasteurized dairy products are necessary, especially for pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals to be aware of Listeria contamination in high-risk foods.

Evolution of thermal tolerance and phenotypic plasticity under rapid and slow temperature fluctuations

Summary: This study examines the evolution of trait and tolerance curves in marine ecosystem foundation organisms using a globally distributed phytoplankton species. The results demonstrate that fluctuations in temperature rapidly lead to enhanced trait plasticity and elevated thermal tolerance in the populations. Furthermore, long-term temperature fluctuations result in the formation of two distinct populations, one evolving high trait plasticity and enhanced thermal tolerance, and the other resembling samples evolved under constant warming conditions.
