Non-SARS-CoV-2 Respiratory Viruses in Athletes at Major Winter Sport Events, 2021 and 2022

Summary: We conducted prospective studies on respiratory viral infections among Team Finland participants during the 2021 Oberstdorf World Ski Championships and the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games. We enrolled 73 athletes and 110 staff members. Compared to similar studies conducted before the COVID-19 pandemic, illnesses and virus detections decreased by 10-fold.

Team-to-team transmission of COVID-19 in ice hockey games - a case series of players in Finnish ice hockey leagues

Summary: An asymptomatic carrier in a U-20 ice hockey team infected 22 out of 28 teammates. The virus spread to opposing teams during games, resulting in a total of 49 infections in five ice hockey teams. Suitable protocols should be established to prevent such team-to-team transmission in amateur-level sports.
