Exposure to domestic violence and depressive symptoms in Chinese adolescents: Sleep problems as a mediator

Xiaoqing Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the mediating role of sleep problems between exposure to domestic violence and depressive symptoms in Chinese adolescents. The results showed that exposure to domestic violence predicted more sleep problems, which in turn predicted more depressive symptoms. Age and gender moderated the mediating effects, with stronger effects found in early-age adolescents and girls compared to middle-age adolescents and boys.

Parental perceived child sleep problems: A concept analysis

Ying Dai et al.

Summary: Parental perceived child sleep problems are defined as parental reliance on observations and beliefs to evaluate children's sleep-related signs and behaviors, which may have bias but still reflect certain aspects of children's sleep health. Various factors such as physiological, psychosocial, familial, environmental, and cultural factors may contribute to parental perceived child sleep problems, impacting the physical and mental health of parent-child dyads and the overall wellness of the family. Future research is needed to establish standard definitions of parental perceived child sleep problems and explore their antecedents and consequences. Integration of parental perceived sleep problems, child sleep history, and objective sleep measures is crucial for evaluating child sleep health.

Summary: Omega-3 LC-PUFA may improve certain aspects of sleep health in infants and children, but does not seem to have a significant effect on sleep in healthy children and adults. More robust studies are needed to confirm the relationship between omega-3 LC-PUFA and sleep outcomes.

The Relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences and Sleep Problems among Adolescent Students: Mediation by Depression or Anxiety

E-Jin Park et al.

Summary: Research showed that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with depression, anxiety, and sleep problems in adolescents, with depression and anxiety mediating the relationship between ACEs and sleep problems. Interventions focusing on depression and anxiety are necessary for adolescents with ACEs to mitigate long-term consequences.

Environmental exposures and sleep outcomes: A review of evidence, potential mechanisms, and implications

Jianghong Liu et al.

Summary: Environmental exposures such as heavy metals, noise pollution, light pollution, second-hand smoke, and air pollution have been shown to have detrimental effects on various aspects of sleep health. While there is growing empirical evidence supporting the association between these exposures and sleep problems, the relationship between light exposure and sleep remains unclear and requires further investigation to elucidate the exact mechanisms of action.
