Smartrock Transport From Seconds to Seasons: Shear Stress Controls on Gravel Diffusion Inferred From Hop and Rest Scaling

Kealie L. G. Pretzlav et al.

Summary: The ability to test probabilistic models of clast movements in bedload diffusion is limited by a lack of basic field data. Embedded sensors in artificial cobbles allowed for the measurement of transport statistics during snowmelt floods, revealing scaling transitions in diffusion under different shear stress conditions. The study suggests that gravel superdiffusion scaling may be relatively universal over minutes to seasons in various field data sets.
