Evaluating the adequacy of nodal status in node-negative gallbladder cancer with T1b-T2 stages: use of nodal staging score

Xi-Tai Huang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to establish a nodal staging score (NSS) to quantify the likelihood of lymph node metastasis in gallbladder cancer patients. The results showed a clear correlation between the number of examined lymph nodes, T stage, and the probability of correct staging, with adequate lymph node examination essential for accurate staging and prognosis prediction.

T2 gallbladder cancer shows substantial survival variation between continents and this is not due to histopathologic criteria or pathologic sampling differences

Mia S. DeSimone et al.

Summary: Variations in pathological evaluation criteria may contribute to the differences in survival rates of T2 gallbladder carcinoma reported in the literature. Geographic differences in survival rates of T2 GBC are evident even in cases with consensus histopathologic criteria. Future studies should investigate other potential factors influencing survival differences of T2 GBC in different regions.

Laparoscopic surgery for oncologic extended resection of T1b and T2 incidental gallbladder carcinoma at a high-volume center: a single-center experience in China

Parbatraj Regmi et al.

Summary: In this study, laparoscopic surgery for oncologic extended resection of early-stage incidental gallbladder carcinoma showed similar intraoperative, perioperative, and short-term oncological outcomes as open oncologic extended resection. The laparoscopic approach was associated with less intraoperative blood loss and shorter postoperative hospital stay. No significant differences were found in lymph nodes yield, lymphatic metastasis, residual disease, postoperative morbidity, early tumor recurrence, and disease-free survival between the two groups during follow-up.
