Influence of lattice strain on Er3+ions activated magnesium zirconium phosphate phosphors: Morphological, structural, and photoluminescence properties

Tribikram Choudhury et al.

Summary: Rare earth ions doped alkaline metal zirconium phosphors have attracted attention for their photoluminescence properties in various applications. In this study, erbium doped magnesium zirconium phosphate nanophosphors were synthesized and characterized. The Er3+ doping did not significantly affect the crystallite size, but slightly reduced the lattice strain. The 0.5 mol% Er3+ doped sample showed a broad emission band and long photoluminescence lifetime, demonstrating potential for integrated photonic applications in the IR region.

Role of energy transfer on the luminescent performance of UV light driven Er3+/Dy3+ co-activated fluoroborosilicate glasses

Adon Jose et al.

Summary: In this study, the authors systematically investigated the impact of Er3+-> Dy3+ energy transfer on the luminescent characteristics of fluoroborosilicate glasses co-activated with Er3+ and Dy3+. The results showed that the energy transfer could enhance the emission of Dy3+, leading to improved luminescent performance. The evaluated colorimetry analysis recommended the prepared material for photonic applications.

Enhanced photoluminescence and abnormal temperature dependent photoluminescence property of SrWO4:Dy3+phosphor by the incorporation of Li plus ion

Ram Gopal et al.

Summary: Ceramic phosphors of SrWO4 with pure, Dy3+ doped, and Li+ co-doped compositions were synthesized and characterized. The structural analysis confirmed the phase purity and crystallinity of the materials, while optical measurements showed enhanced emission intensity with 2 mol% Dy3+ doping and increased emission intensity with the incorporation of Li+ ions. Additionally, temperature dependent photoluminescence studies indicated more intense emission at higher temperatures, suggesting potential applications in display devices and LEDs above room temperature.

The same chemical state of carbon gives rise to two peaks in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

G. Greczynski et al.

Summary: Chemical state analysis in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) relies on assigning well-defined binding energy values to core level electrons originating from atoms in particular bonding configurations. Here, direct evidence is presented for the violation of this paradigm, as the C 1s peak due to C-C/C-H bonded atoms from adventitious carbon (AdC) layers splits into two distinctly different contributions. This finding exposes fundamental problems with the reliability of reported XPS data and suggests discontinuing the use of adventitious carbon in XPS.
