Protective effects of gut microbiota and gut microbiota-derived acetate on chicken colibacillosis induced by avian pathogenic Escherichia coli

Lu-Yuan Peng et al.

Summary: Chicken colibacillosis caused by APEC leads to significant economic losses in the poultry industry. This study demonstrated the importance of gut microbiota in defending against APEC infection in chickens. Depletion of gut microbiota increased susceptibility to APEC challenge, while acetate derived from gut microbiota acted as a protective mediator during the infection.

Evaluation of the Immunogenic Response of a Novel Enterobactin Conjugate Vaccine in Chickens for the Production of Enterobactin-Specific Egg Yolk Antibodies

Ximin Zeng et al.

Summary: This study experimented with different vaccination regimens to determine efficient production of anti-Ent egg yolk IgY in chickens, and found that the novel Ent conjugate vaccine could induce strong, specific, and robust immune response in chickens, with potential for passive immune intervention against Gram-negative infections.

Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC): An Overview of Virulence and Pathogenesis Factors, Zoonotic Potential, and Control Strategies

Dipak Kathayat et al.

Summary: APEC is a pathogen that causes colibacillosis in avian species, potentially posing a foodborne zoonotic risk. In addition to known virulence factors, other factors contribute to APEC pathogenesis. APEC shows resistance to multiple classes of antibiotics, highlighting the need for effective vaccines and alternative therapies.

Gut microbiota and sepsis: from pathogenesis to novel treatments

Robert F. J. Kullberg et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the composition of the gut microbiome is significantly altered during sepsis, leading to increased susceptibility and adverse outcomes. Microbiota-derived metabolites play a crucial role in enhancing host immune response. While microbiota-targeted therapies may be beneficial, they also come with risks.
