Production of O Radicals from Cavitation Bubbles under Ultrasound

Kyuichi Yasui

Summary: This review focuses on the production of O radicals (oxygen atoms) in acoustic cavitation. Numerical simulations revealed that significant amounts of O radicals are generated inside a heated bubble during the violent collapse through thermal dissociation of water vapor and oxygen molecules. However, the concentration and lifetime of O radicals in the surrounding liquid water are currently unknown. Future studies should investigate the potential role of O radicals in sonochemical reactions in the liquid phase, which are traditionally believed to be dominated by OH radicals and H2O2.

Characterising the cavitation activity generated by an ultrasonic horn at varying tip-vibration amplitudes

Lukman Yusuf et al.

Summary: The study uses dual-perspective high-speed imaging and acoustic detection to characterize cavitation activity at the tip of a commercial 20 kHz ultrasonic horn. The research observed cavitation bubble cluster oscillation, collapse, and shock wave generation through different perspectives and analyzed the impact of input power on the cavitation noise spectra. Findings suggest that shock waves generated by periodic primary cluster collapses dominate the non-linear emissions of cavitation noise spectra.

Quantitative evaluation of ultrasonic cleaning ability using acoustic cavitation signal

Takeyoshi Uchida

Summary: This study aimed to establish a new quantitative evaluation index for ultrasonic cleaning ability by exploring the relationship between acoustic cavitation signal and cleaning ability. It was found that there is a positive correlation between broadband noise and material removal rate, indicating the potential use of acoustic cavitation signal as an evaluation index for measuring the effectiveness of ultrasonic cleaning.

Nonlinear dynamics and acoustic emissions of interacting cavitation bubbles in viscoelastic tissues

Dui Qin et al.

Summary: The cavitation-mediated bioeffects are mainly related to the dynamic behaviors of bubbles in viscoelastic tissues. The interactions between two interacting cavitation bubbles in such tissues have significant effects on acoustic emissions. Increasing the initial distance between bubbles enhances the nonlinear dynamics of bubbles.

The role of the bubble?bubble interaction on radial pulsations of bubbles

Yang Shen et al.

Summary: The study suggests that the interaction between bubbles has a significant impact on the radial pulsations of bubbles, affecting the expansion ratios and frequency response curve. Furthermore, a larger coupling strength results in a more pronounced effect.
