Development of aerostatic porous bearings manufactured using metal 3D printing technology

Ryo Sadahiro et al.

Summary: In this study, an aerostatic porous bearing with a layer thickness of several hundred micrometers and a support member, manufactured using metal 3D printing technology, is proposed. The optimum conditions for manufacturing the proposed bearings with a direct metal laser sintering method 3D printer were investigated, and the characteristics of the prototype were experimentally studied.

Non-Newtonian lubrication of hybrid multi-recess spherical journal bearings with different geometric shapes of recess

Adesh Kumar Tomar et al.

Summary: The present study numerically analyzed the synergistic effect of recess shapes and non-linear behavior of the lubricant on 4-pocket hybrid multi-recess spherical journal bearings. The results demonstrated that the recess shapes and non-linear factor significantly affected bearing performance, and the proper selection of these factors is necessary for enhanced performance.

Behaviour of conical porous hybrid journal bearing operated with MHD lubricant considering influence of surface irregularities

Anil Singh et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the numerical simulation of a conical porous hybrid journal bearing with the consideration of both three-dimensional surface irregularities and magnetohydrodynamic lubricant. The study analyzes the interactive effects of permeability parameter, MHD lubricant behavior, semi cone angle, and 3D surface irregularities on the performance of the bearing. The findings show that using MHD lubricant can enhance the fluid film thickness and damping coefficients.

Non-linear stability analysis of two-layered porous journal bearings with velocity slip and percolation effect of additives of coupled-stress lubricant

Shitendu Some et al.

Summary: The paper presents a non-linear stability analysis of a two-layered porous journal bearing under coupled-stress lubricant, considering velocity slip and additive's percolation effect. Various trajectory of journal center locus for different operating conditions are represented graphically, and stability characteristics are studied with respect to critical mass parameter and whirl ratio under various parametric conditions, with a comparison between linear and non-linear analysis demonstrated.

Behavior of Conical Porous Hybrid Journal Bearing with Pseudoplastic Lubricant

Satish C. Sharma et al.

Summary: Recent years have seen an increase in the use of porous bearings in industrial applications due to their noise reduction, precision, and low maintenance. The study focuses on the numerical analysis of a conical porous hybrid journal bearing system (CPHJBS) and investigates the effects of permeability parameter, semi cone angle, and pseudoplastic lubricant behavior on its performance. Findings suggest that using a pseudoplastic lubricant in CPHJBS can improve stability threshold speed margin under certain conditions.

Analysis of a double layer porous hybrid journal bearing considering the combined influence of wear and non-Newtonian behaviour of lubricant

Anil Singh et al.

Summary: This paper explores the theoretical examination of the effect of worn bearing surfaces on the behavior of a hybrid double layer porous journal bearing system operating with power-law lubricants. The study finds that the hybrid DLPJBS operating under non-Newtonian lubricants offers enhanced values of certain dynamic coefficients. The governing equations for non-Newtonian lubricant flow in bearing porous clearance space are solved using the FEM method.
