The newly discovered epigenetic mark, histone lactylation, found in humans, is also present in malaria parasites and may have significant roles in the epigenetic regulation of Plasmodium.
Epigenetic modifications play im-portant roles in the biology of ma-laria parasites. The new epigenetic mark histone lactylation, discovered only recently in humans, is also present in malaria parasites. It may have important functions as a key player in the epigenetic repertoire of Plasmodium.
