Evaluation of anti-tumor effects of crocin on a novel 3D tissue-engineered tumor model based on sodium alginate/gelatin microbead

Jingjing Zhu et al.

Summary: Crocin, a component of saffron, has various effects including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, antidepressant, and auxiliary anti-tumor effects. A study created a 3D cell model to evaluate the inhibitory effect of crocin on MCF-7 cells, bridging the gap between 2D and 3D cell models for drug evaluation. The 3D culture showed significantly higher IC50 values and reduced cell growth compared to the 2D culture when exposed to crocin.

An injectable anisotropic alginate hydrogel containing oriented fibers for nerve tissue engineering

Paria Ghaderinejad et al.

Summary: Research interest is growing in designing a tissue regenerative matrix for effective nerve injury repair, such as the injectable alginate hydrogel with magnetic PCL short nanofibers. The alignment of short fibers by external magnetic fields affects fiber orientation and can accelerate neural differentiation of stem cells in hybrid hydrogels. These ordered injectable hydrogels show promise for minimal invasive neural tissue regeneration.
