Electromechanical properties of ultra-low porous auxetic piezocomposite: from the perspective of Poisson's ratio

Haishan Tang et al.

Summary: This study introduces an ultra-low porous auxetic piezoelectric composite made of PZT and hollow PVDF, showing that a small amount of additional PVDF can effectively tune the electromechanical properties of the composite and reduce the maximum stress of PZT. By deriving expressions for the relationship among some electromechanical coefficients, the role of Poisson's ratio in the electromechanical properties of piezoelectric materials is elucidated. These findings provide insight for the design and application of ultra-low porous auxetic piezoelectric materials.

Novel metamaterials with thermal-torsion and tensile-torsion coupling effects

Li-Rong Long et al.

Summary: Novel 3D chiral metamaterials are designed using struts with different thermal expansion coefficients, exhibiting twist deformation under temperature variation and uniaxial load. The tensile-torsion and thermal-torsion coupling effects of the metamaterials can be tuned by tailoring cells' geometric configuration and material selection, with the rods' angle and stiffness playing important roles.

In-plane dynamics crushing of a combined auxetic honeycomb with negative Poisson's ratio and enhanced energy absorption

Huan Lu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the deformation modes and energy absorption capacity of a combined auxetic honeycomb structure under different impact velocities. The results show that the structure presents better energy absorption compared with conventional honeycomb structures while retaining the negative Poisson's ratio property.

Summary: This research investigates the behavior of auxetic, anti-tetra-chiral structures designed as tubes subjected to tensile quasi-static loads. Experimental work and numerical simulations were conducted to establish theoretical calculation models for estimating reaction forces and validate the proposed model.

Multi-scale characterization of novel re-entrant circular auxetic honeycombs under quasi-static crushing

Chang Qi et al.

Summary: In this study, the mechanical properties of REC honeycombs with different geometric parameters were thoroughly investigated through finite element simulations and theoretical analyses. It was found that adjusting the geometric parameters of the unit cell can tailor the crushing stress, energy absorption characteristics, and NPR value of the honeycomb, triggering specific deformation mechanisms at meso and macro scales. The study provides insights for engineering applications by revealing the effects of geometric parameters on the energy absorption capabilities and NPR values of REC honeycombs.

Micropolar homogenization of wavy tetra-chiral and tetra-achiral lattices to identify axial-shear coupling and directional negative Poisson's ratio

Zhihao Yuan et al.

Summary: The study establishes a generalized micropolar homogenization method to characterize the elastic constants of chiral and achiral lattices, revealing coupling effects and directional Poisson's ratio properties of different structures. This offers a powerful platform for designing metamaterials by adjusting both anisotropy and chirality through geometric reconfiguration of lattice structures.
