Tuning of Magnetic Damping in Y3Fe5O12/Metal Bilayers for Spin-Wave Conduit Termination

Adam Krysztofik et al.

Summary: This work investigates the structural and dynamic magnetic properties of YIG films on GGG substrates with thin metal spacer layers. The separation of the YIG film from the GGG substrate allows for control over magnetic damping and absorption of spin waves. The findings offer potential applications in the design of complex spin-wave conduits.

Bismuth composition, thickness, and annealing temperature dependence of the spin Seebeck voltage in Bi-YIG films prepared using sol-gel solution and spin-coating method

Mikiya Yamamoto et al.

Summary: We investigated the dependence of the longitudinal spin Seebeck effect (LSSE) voltage on the Bi composition, film thickness, and annealing temperature (Ta) in BixY3-xFe5O12 (Bi-YIG) films. The LSSE coefficient tended to increase with increasing Bi composition, indicating that Bi substitution enhanced the interface effect and induced effective spin current conversion. Additionally, annealing the Bi-YIG films at 973 K resulted in a larger LSSE, likely due to reduced cracks and smoother surface conditions.

Preferred-oriented polycrystalline Y3Fe5O12 films grown on quartz with low microwave loss

Biswanath Bhoi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the growth of highly oriented YIG films on amorphous quartz substrates with excellent magnetic properties and structural characteristics. The formation of YIG with preferred orientation opens up significant opportunities for preparing textured or single crystal materials on amorphous substrates, which is important for integrated applications with semiconductor technology.

Systematic and collaborative approach to problem solving using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Neal Fairley et al.

Summary: The methodology presented in this work is a result of interactions between junior and senior XPS users within the CasaXPS framework, particularly through workshops organized by IMN. The discussions from these workshops have been instrumental in developing the XPS data processing concept and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in surface analysis problem-solving. This methodology has evolved over subsequent workshops and now represents the philosophy used in CasaXPS spectral data processing paradigm.

Magnetization Damping in Nanocrystalline Yttrium Iron Garnet Thin Films Grown on Oxidized Silicon

Adam Krysztofik et al.

Summary: This letter presents the magnetic and structural properties of Y3Fe5O12 (YIG) thin films deposited on a thermally oxidized silicon substrate. Broadband ferromagnetic measurements distinguished between intrinsic and extrinsic linewidth contributions, showing low values of the Gilbert damping parameter for film thicknesses below 100 nm, although inhomogeneous linewidth broadening remained significant due to structural defects. This could guide the development of YIG films integrated with silicon with low magnetic losses.
