Investigation of Gamma-Radiation Shielding Properties of Cadmium Bismuth Borate Glass Experimentally and by Using XCOM Program and MCNP5 Code

Yasser Saleh Mustafa Alajerami et al.

Summary: New bismuth borate glass systems containing various concentrations of cadmium oxide were prepared using the melt-quenching method, showing good transparency and radiation shielding properties. Experimental results were in good agreement with simulation, with the mean free path of S4 system showing promising results compared to barite and chalcocite concretes.

Investigation of the gamma-ray shielding performance of the B2O3-Bi2O3-ZnO-Li2O glasses based on the Monte Carlo approach

Ali Asadi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the shielding performance of B2O3-Bi2O3-ZnO-Li2O glasses against gamma-rays, finding that the mass attenuation coefficient of the composites increases with higher Li2O content. Results from simulation using the MCNPX and XCOM databases show a relative percent deviation of less than 2% in most cases. The B4 glass sample is identified as having the best shielding performance among the samples tested.

Monte Carlo simulations study on gamma ray-neutron shielding characteristics for vinyl ester composites

Iskender Akkurt et al.

Summary: The study aimed to report the gamma ray-neutron attenuation parameters of eight types of vinyl ester pumice (V-P) composites across a wide energy range of 511-2140 keV using MCNPX and FLUKA codes. Results showed that FLUKA code can be used as an alternative technique to determine the attenuation features of vinyl ester composites, and the composite coded as V-P50 can be a competitive candidate for shielding gamma rays and neutrons.

Newly Developed Vanadium-Based Glasses and Their Potential for Nuclear Radiation Shielding Aims: A Monte Carlo Study on Gamma Ray Attenuation Parameters

Huseyin Ozan Tekin et al.

Summary: The study showed that the amount of CuO in each sample played a crucial role in determining the nuclear radiation shielding properties. Samples with higher CuO content exhibited higher linear attenuation coefficient and mass attenuation coefficient values. Additionally, glass sample VPCu8 demonstrated the lowest mean free path, half value layer, and tenth value layer values.
