Carbon and water footprints assessment of cotton jeans using the method based on modularity: A full life cycle perspective

Yan Luo et al.

Summary: Cotton jeans have a significant negative impact on the ecological environment, particularly in terms of climate change and water depletion. Previous studies have employed process modularity to assess the carbon and water footprints, but a holistic view considering both production and consumption processes is lacking. This study extends the research boundary to the entire life cycle of cotton jeans and verifies the feasibility and practicality of the method through a computational case study.

Development of a novel process-level water footprint assessment for textile production based on modularity

Xin Li et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel process-level water footprint assessment for the textile industry based on modularity. By comparing different products and processes, analyzing causes and influencing factors, and finding water-saving opportunities, this assessment can help eliminate wastewater discharge and pollution. The use of a limited set of modules to create unlimited product variants makes the assessment efficient and practical, with benefits becoming more evident as more water footprint units are added to the database.

Towards environmental sustainability: Life cycle assessment-based water footprint analysis on China's cotton production

Tianzuo Zhang et al.

Summary: Water scarcity is a severe issue in Chinese cotton production, requiring systematic analysis of water consumption and pollutant emissions to enhance environmental performance. Direct and indirect environmental impacts from water consumption and nutrient loss hinder sustainable development, with regional concentration in Xinjiang Province. Practical measures like straw returning and energy substitution are recommended for improving environmental performance.
