This article reviews different methods and approaches for the synthesis of N/O/S-heterocycles using styrene as an annulating partner in the past five years. These heterocycles are widely present in the core structure of various natural products, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals.
Styrene is a small molecule yet versatile and very reactive. Due to the unique reactivity of the double bond of styrene, it has been used in the construction of various heterocycles. In this context, several efficient protocols have been developed via carbo and heterofunctionalization to generate different heterocycles. Some of these heterocycles are widespread in the core structure of various natural prod-ucts, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals. In this review, we will summarize different approaches uti-lized in the last five years for the synthesis of N/O/S-heterocycles using styrene as an annulating partner.(c) 2023 Elsevier Ltd.
