An intracontinental orogen exhumed by basement-slice imbrication in the Longmenshan Thrust Belt of the Eastern Tibetan Plateau

Zhenhua Xue et al.

Summary: The Longmenshan Thrust Belt in Eastern Tibet was formed during a Mesozoic orogeny and Cenozoic reworking. Detailed structural analysis reveals that the thrust belt can be divided into a Southeastern Zone and a Northwestern Zone, both of which experienced major tectonic events. Geological data suggests that episodic imbrication of basement slices occurred during the Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous and Late Cretaceous-earliest Paleocene, leading to the exhumation of amphibolite facies rocks.

New Insight From the First Application of Ti-in-Quartz (TitaniQ) Thermometry Mapping in the Eastern Khondalite Belt, North China Craton

Yuanyuan Zheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the thermal regime of the Precambrian continental crust in North China Craton, and mapped the temperature variation in the lower crust using the Ti-in-quartz thermometer. The study found that the maximum Ti concentrations in matrix-type quartz can better represent the thermal regime, and identified the hottest region to be the Liangcheng-Heling'er-Zhuozi area, associated with ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism and charnockite. This provides new insights into the formation of ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism.

Timing and mechanisms of Tibetan Plateau uplift

Lin Ding et al.

Summary: This review discusses the temporal and spatial distribution of surface uplift in the Tibetan Plateau and the geodynamic mechanisms behind it. The initial collision between India and Asia and the subsequent formation of the high Tibetan Plateau are still not well understood, but the uplift is primarily controlled by delamination and break-off of the subducted Indian and Asian lithosphere.

Dual mixing for the formation of Neoproterozoic granitic intrusions within the composite Jiuling batholith, South China

Di Wang et al.

Summary: The study of the Neoproterozoic Jiuling batholith in southern China reveals the formation process of continental crust, with multiple crustally derived melts mixing to form the batholith around 828-810 million years ago. Geochemical variations within the intrusions indicate changes in source composition over time, suggesting two mixing processes involved in the formation of the batholith.

Extensional tectonics and North China Craton destruction: Insights from the magnetic susceptibility anisotropy (AMS) of granite and metamorphic core complex

Wei Lin et al.

Summary: The North China Craton has undergone large-scale lithospheric removal and magmatism since the Mesozoic, resulting in changes in physical and chemical characteristics of the lithospheric mantle. The emplacement mechanisms of plutons in different stages were controlled by regional extension, indicating a strain-increasing tendency. Extensional tectonics in the eastern NCC represent interactions between the Mongol-Okhotsk belt, Paleo-Pacific plate, and eastern Eurasian continent.
