Real-time changes of the adsorption process and conformation of marine dissolved organic matters on the solid-liquid interface

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption characteristics of marine dissolved organic matters (MDOMs) on the solid-liquid interface in coastal waters. It found that the organic macromolecules in MDOMs have viscoelastic properties and the adsorption process is dynamic, with MDOMs concentration being an important driving force. The three macromolecules in MDOMs, including acidic polysaccharides, protein-like, and polycarboxylate-type humic acids, exhibit different adsorption abilities and characteristics at the solid-liquid interface, with acidic polysaccharides showing sustained adsorption ability.

Utilization of super-hydrophobic steel slag in mortar to improve water repellency and corrosion resistance

Summary: This study proposes an environmentally friendly method of incorporating super-hydrophobic modified steel slag into cement-based materials to enhance water resistance and corrosion resistance. The results show that adding super-hydrophobic steel slag reduces the wettability and water absorption of the cement mortar, improves its mechanical strengths, and enhances its corrosion resistance.

Traditional Chinese medicine extracts as novel corrosion inhibitors for AZ91 magnesium alloy in saline environment

Summary: Zingiber officinale Roscoe extract, Raphanus sativus L. extract, Rheum palmatum extract, Coptis chinensis extract, Glycyrrhiza uralensis extract (GUE), Potentilla discolor extract (PDE), and Taraxacum officinale extract (TOE) were tested as green corrosion inhibitors for AZ91 alloy in a saline environment. The results showed that GUE, PDE, and TOE significantly enhanced the corrosion resistance of AZ91 alloy by 73.4%, 87.6%, and 84.6%, respectively. Surface characterization revealed that the organic compounds of GUE, PDE, and TOE could interact with the alloy surface to form a protective physisorbed film, effectively mitigating the corrosion process.

Galvanic corrosion protection of Al-alloy in contact with carbon fibre reinforced polymer through plasma electrolytic oxidation treatment

Summary: The anti-galvanic corrosion performance of different oxidation processes on aluminum alloy in contact with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) was studied. The results showed that the high voltage plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) method could produce a crystallized compact ceramic coating, which effectively improved the galvanic corrosion protection.

Interfacial bonding mechanism and properties of HVOF-sprayed Fe-based amorphous coatings on LA141 magnesium alloy substrate

Summary: Fe-based amorphous coatings were prepared on LA141 magnesium alloy substrate to improve the corrosion and wear resistance of Mg-Li alloys. The introduction of a Ni60 interlayer significantly enhanced the bonding strength between the coating and substrate, leading to improved corrosion and wear resistance of the magnesium alloy.

Corrosion protection of zinc by a silane conversion coating modified with graphene oxide

Summary: This study demonstrates an effective strategy to inhibit the adverse side effect of graphene aggravating metal corrosion and successfully applies graphene protection to a metal surface. The GPTMS/rGO composite coating shows good corrosion resistance with a high protection efficiency of 99.94% after immersion in a 0.6 M NaCl solution for 12 days. The coating formation mechanism and properties were investigated using different analytical techniques, confirming its potential for practical applications in metal protection.
