Summary: Immediate and delayed axillary lymph node dissections have comparable outcomes in terms of arm lymphoedema and morbidity compared to sentinel lymph node biopsies alone. Preoperative appropriate patient selection for axillary surgery treatment may improve lymphoedema outcomes in breast cancer patients.

Regular Aerobic Exercise Attenuates Pain and Anxiety in Mice by Restoring Serotonin-Modulated Synaptic Plasticity in the Anterior Cingulate Cortex

Yong-Sheng Zhou et al.

Summary: Our study investigated the effects of regular aerobic exercise on pain and anxiety behaviors and the underlying neural mechanisms. We found that regular aerobic exercise increased serotonin release and modulated synaptic plasticity in the ACC. The modulation effects were mediated by 5-HT1A and 5-HT7 receptors. These findings suggest that regular aerobic exercise can improve pain and concomitant anxiety behaviors through serotonin-mediated mechanisms in the ACC.

Biopsychosocial risk factors for pain and pain-related disability 1 year after surgery for breast cancer

Lore Dams et al.

Summary: This study investigated the risk factors for long-term pain after breast cancer surgery and found that altered central somatosensory functioning, psychological symptoms, and social support were consistently related to pain intensity and disability. Additionally, pre- and postoperative disturbed functioning of the somatosensory nervous system in the surgical area could provide additional information regarding long-term pain and disability.

Cardiovascular status of breast cancer patients before and after receiving anthracycline chemotherapy regimen

Zhaoying Dong et al.

Summary: This study explored the effects of TEC chemotherapy regimen on cardiovascular risk factors, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, and cardiac electrical activity in breast cancer patients. The results showed that postmenopausal patients had more cardiovascular risk factors, an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease after chemotherapy, and emphasized the necessity of interdisciplinary cooperation for dynamic assessment of breast cancer patients' cardiovascular health.

Health-related quality of life outcomes among breast cancer survivors

Jihye Park et al.

Summary: The study showed that prognostic and cancer treatment-related factors can impact health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in breast cancer survivors, and poor HRQOL may increase mortality risk. Evaluating HRQOL is important as it may serve as a tool for optimizing survivorship care.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Exercise-induced modulation of monocytes in breast cancer survivors

Nasim Khosravi et al.

Summary: Exercise training can reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine production in monocytes of breast cancer survivors, especially IL-1B. Acute exercise downregulates the expression of TLR2 and TLR4 on monocytes, but this effect is not sustained over the course of training.

Sensory Changes and Postmastectomy Pain Following Preservation of Intercostobrachial Nerve in Breast Cancer Surgery: a Prospective Randomized Study

Navneet Kaur et al.

Summary: Preservation of the intercostobrachial nerve can significantly improve sensory loss and persistent neuropathic pain following mastectomy, with similar rates of acute post-operative pain between the two groups but reduced rates of persistent pain in the preserved nerve group. This highlights the potential benefits of preserving the intercostobrachial nerve in breast cancer surgery.
