On a length-biased Birnbaum-Saunders regression model applied to meteorological data

Kessys L. P. Oliveira et al.

Summary: The length-biased Birnbaum-Saunders distribution is introduced and applied in environmental sciences in this paper. New properties of the distribution are derived, showing that one of its parameters is the mode and that it is bimodal. A new regression model based on this distribution is proposed and parameter estimation is done using the maximum likelihood method. The performance of the proposed methods is evaluated through a Monte Carlo study and illustrated using a real meteorological data set.

Log-symmetric quantile regression models

Helton Saulo et al.

Summary: This article introduces a regression model based on the log-symmetric family of distributions, which is useful for dealing with continuous, positive, and asymmetrically distributed response variables. Through two Monte Carlo simulation studies, it was found that the maximum likelihood estimators perform well.

Robust beta regression modeling with errors-in-variables: a Bayesian approach and numerical applications

Jorge Figueroa-Zuniga et al.

Summary: This paper discusses a robust regression modeling approach for proportions with errors-in-variables using the rectangular beta (RB) distribution, estimated via a Bayesian approach with Gibbs sampling. The method shows good robustness and flexibility in handling data with measurement errors.

A novel claim size distribution based on a Birnbaum-Saunders and gamma mixture capturing extreme values in insurance: estimation, regression, and applications

Emilio Gomez-Deniz et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a mixture model combining the Birnbaum-Saunders and gamma distributions to describe actuarial data related to financial losses. By creating a regression structure, the relationship between the response variable and a set of covariates is explained as a function.

Birnbaum-Saunders quantile regression and its diagnostics with application to economic data

Luis Sanchez et al.

Summary: The study introduces a class of quantile regression models based on the Birnbaum-Saunders distribution, providing wide flexibility in modeling positive and asymmetric data. The methodology includes thorough theoretical property study and diagnostic analytics evaluation, with numerical results indicating the adequacy of the approach for quantile regression. The BS distribution is shown to be a good modeling choice for data with positive support and asymmetry.

A new BISARMA time series model for forecasting mortality using weather and particulate matter data

Victor Leiva et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a new class of time series models, called BS autoregressive moving average (BISARMA) models, based on the Birnbaum-Saunders (BS) distribution, which allows modeling of positive and asymmetric data with an autoregressive structure. Through a thorough study of the theoretical properties and practical issues of the proposed methodology, performance evaluation using Monte Carlo simulations, and analysis of real-world data, the potential of the method is demonstrated. The numerical results show the excellent performance of the BISARMA model, indicating that the BS distribution is a good modeling choice for time series data with positive support and asymmetric distribution.
